5.2.1 Introduction

This part of the RDR standard provides music licensing companies with the means to share data on revenues relating to sound recordings and/or music videos, and/or audio-visual resources containing music with the rights controller or its administrator and with each other. The initiating event in the context of sharing data on revenues determines the relationship between music licensing companies and defines the role of each music licensing company in that context. As such a music licensing company can be the collecting and/or paying and/or claiming music licensing company depending on that initiating event. Thus, the music licensing company may be collecting royalties, claiming the rights to those royalties or paying the revenue to the correct right controller.

Figures 1 and 2 show two scenarios clearly identifying who the sender and recipient of the message is depending on the roles of the music licensing company. This is driven by the nature of licences granted by a music licensing company and the mandates given by the rights controllers on domestic and/or international level.
